Menopause

Menopause
- a holistic perspective on an important period in life
Many feel that they do not get the right help from healthcare with their menopausal symptoms, that they are not taken seriously and that they are sent around to different caregivers.
Although it is common to have symptoms before, during and after menopause (cessation of menstruation), there is often a lack of a holistic approach to help those who have problems.
Menopausal symptoms are common.
Menopause is a time in life of great changes, physical, social and emotional. For many, menopause can mean sleep problems, anxiety, listlessness, depression and physical problems in the form of hot flashes, dry mucous membranes, joint pain, palpitations, etc.
From a biomedical perspective, many symptoms can be explained based on the lack of estrogen or the imbalance between several different hormones. Some even go so far as to equate menopause with a disease state that should therefore always be cured.
Menopause is a physiological process that starts long before we get symptoms.
Menopause is not something that happens suddenly, but is a gradual development throughout life, as our egg supply declines. In Chinese medicine it is proposed, that what we are exposed to during life, e.g. stress, irregular working hours, smoking etc. amplifies the symptoms we get. Therefore, it is considered important to inform and help our daughters to review their lifestyle already at a young age.
How we react to the falling hormones and how great the imbalances become, is highly individual even if the process itself in the body is universal. It is therefore important to individualise the help based on your symptoms and problems.
You can get help from acupuncture for menopause symptoms, in my clinic
Acupuncture may have a good effect on several menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes, heart palpitations, sleep problems, worry, anxiety and depression.

You can get acupuncture treatment regardless of whether you are on hormone therapy or not. For those who cannot or do not want to take hormones, acupuncture can be particularly beneficial.
During the treatment, you will also receive advice based on your individual situation and more general tips regarding the menopause.

The Wise Woman
In Eastern cultures, the aging woman has traditionally been seen as someone who deserves respect and who goes from fertile to wise woman. She becomes someone to be reckoned with in terms of wisdom and life experience and has an important social role in society. In our society where it is important to have to live up to an impossible ideal of beauty, the aging woman instead gets more pressure on herself. Excessive diets and excessive exercise cause additional stress on the body and mind.
The social context
Social support and being with others in the same situation have been shown to reduce menopausal symptoms.
Many times the menopause coincides with the children becoming adults and moving away from home, which can mean disorientation both in relation to the "new" body and to the changes in family life. A holistic view and approach to menopause and aging means taking all parts into account and finding your own way.
Each situation and individual is unique and requires different solutions.
In my care you get individually tailored guidance where we together come to conclusion of what suits you, based on your unique life situation.
