Birth Rights

Lectures and workshops on human rights during childbirth and pregnancy.

Human rights are something that to the highest degree include pregnancy and birth. Only the unique individual has the right to make decisions concerning their body and child. Sometimes it can be difficult as a health care professional to navigate rights in relation to care routines, perhaps especially during an ongoing birth.

A positive birth experience is hugely important for health. How can you contribute to creating good health for your patients?

Birth rights need to be strengthened throughout the world. In recent years, several institutions among others, The UN and the European Court of Justice has raised the issue of obstetric violence, and require member nations to make efforts to counter this. The WHO has developed guidelines for a positive birth experience and the ICM - International Confederation of Midwives, is constantly working for improvement.

For those of you who want to work seriously with these important and unavoidable questions, there is the possibility of workshops with a theoretical framework, tailored to your particular business. Take the chance for an improvement project that will make a difference for everyone involved.

The subject has interested me throughout my adult life and from a general interest and work around autonomy, rights and care development, the possibilities of pregnant women and those giving birth to make informed decisions and consent to their care and treatment has become a special interest.

During the last two years, I have written a handbook on the rights of pregnant women and those giving birth on behalf of Birth Rights Sweden. In connection with the publication, I will also offer lectures on the contents of the handbook.
